Unlocking the Power of Creativity
When people talk about creativity, we often imagine artists with paintbrushes or musicians composing songs. Therefore, I grew up thinking I was not creative as my brain works in a more structured and organised way that what we imagine in artists.
Now I know that creativity is much broader — it’s a way of seeing and shaping the world. It’s the way we come up with a solution to approach a problem differently. It's finding a new recipe by combining what’s left in the fridge. It's coming up with a bedtime story for a child on the spot. It's designing a workshop or activity that helps people explore values in a fresh way. It’s about how we approach challenges, how we connect ideas, and how we choose to express what matters most. And many other things.
In my line of work, creativity shows up every day. It’s in the way I come up with new systems and processes, or solutions for an existing problem, or simply setting up the foundations based on the values and working style of a new client.
My passion for writing comes from the same place. Writing gives me a way to explore ideas and give voice to what I care about.
The questions here is: how does creativity shows up for you as founder / director / executive? The reality is, leadership can easily get consumed by the urgent: meetings, fires to put out, decisions that pile up. But without creativity, it’s all too easy to stay stuck in reaction mode. And when we get to this point, ideas slow down, our brains are foggy at times, and we can feel stuck.
Why is creativity important?
Creativity gives us the ability to step back, reimagine the way we do things, and free up our energy for the areas that need us the most in our business — might be the vision, the strategy, creating content that attracts our ideal client, or the relationships that move the needle. You name it!
Think about it this way:
When you design systems that allow your team to own more, that’s creativity.
When you think out of the box to reframe a complex problem so the solution becomes clear, that’s creativity.
When you create space for bold and innovative ideas to disrupt the market, that's creativity.
My own passion for making things happen took me to my passion for productivity and then energy management. And my work as a business manager and my writing, both, involve creativity. And both are about helping business owners, founders, directors and busy professionals to find the freedom to focus on what only they can do.
For founders and directors, creativity is not a luxury. It’s not something you fit in once everything else is done. It’s a strategy — the very thing that allows you to escape the grind, focus on the big picture, and lead with impact.
I believe we are all creative. Not because we can all draw or compose, but because we all have the ability to imagine, to question, and to reframe. The challenge is not whether we are creative, but whether we allow that creativity to shape the way we live and work.
And here there is something I experienced recently: only when I allow myself to slow done, to stop the doing and connect with the being, my creativity flows. I found connecting with my breath very useful for this: it allows great things in my inner world, which flourish in different ways - and one of them is creativity.
As a business owner - what can you do in your business to move the needle that involves creativity?
